Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482)
Take the First Step Towards Expanding Your Workforce
The Skills in Demand (SID) visa (subclass 482) is a temporary visa that allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to fill positions they cannot otherwise find suitably skilled Australian workers to occupy. This visa facilitates the entry of skilled individuals to address labour shortages in various sectors across Australia.
The SID visa replaces the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) (Subclass 482) visa as part of Australia’s reformed skilled migration framework.

Key Features of the 482 visa
- Duration: the SID visa permits holders to work in Australia for up to four years. Hong Kong passport holders may be eligible for a stay of up to five years.
- Eligibility: applicants must be nominated for a skilled position by an approved sponsor, possess the necessary skills for the job, and meet relevant English language requirements.
- Pathway to Permanent Residency: eligibility to apply for permanent residence through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187), if criteria are met.
- Occupation list: the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) replaces previous lists, consolidating 456 occupations and adding 70 new roles in critical industries like healthcare, cybersecurity, and construction.
