Child Visa Options In Australia

Temporary Child Visas

Dependent Child Visa (Subclass 445): This visa is for children whose parents hold a temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 309 or 820). It allows the child to stay temporarily in Australia until a decision is made on their parent’s permanent Partner Visa application.

Permanent Child Visas

  1. Child Visa (Subclass 101): This visa allows children to join their parents in Australia if they are permanent residents, eligible New Zealand citizens, or Australian citizens. The child must be outside Australia at the time of application and be dependent on a parent who holds the aforementioned statuses.
  2. Adoption Visa (Subclass 102): Designed for children adopted from overseas by an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. It allows them to enter Australia as permanent residents.
  3. Orphan Relative Visa (Subclass 117): For children under 18 years of age who are living outside Australia, have no parents to care for them, and have a relative in Australia who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

The choice between Temporary and Permanent Child Visas depends on the specific circumstances of the child and their family.

These visas acknowledge the importance of family unity and provide a legal pathway for children to join their parents in Australia, whether for a temporary stay or permanent settlement.

The processing time for a Child Visa varies, depending on the type of visa and the circustances. To get an indication of the timeframe, we suggested visiting the Department of Home Affairs website.
